Phlow Philly is a citywide initiative working to address period poverty by increasing access to free menstrual products and education across Philadelphia. Led in partnership with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, the initiative includes:

• Installing free-vend dispensers in public spaces like libraries and recreation centers
• Distributing 4,500 period care kits through community-based partners
• Collecting data and community feedback to better understand the impact of period poverty

From product distribution to public awareness, Phlow Philly is creating more equitable access to period care, one bathroom, organization, and conversation at a time.

Periods are a natural part of life, but for too many people, access to period products isn’t a given. Period poverty happens when someone doesn’t have what they need to manage their period safely and with dignity. That might mean going without pads or tampons, lacking access to clean bathrooms or waste disposal, or not having basic information about menstrual health. It’s not just inconvenient—it can affect someone’s ability to attend school, go to work, or move through daily life with confidence.

Phlow Philly exists as one way to begin changing that.

This initiative started as an idea in October 2024, in response to a call from the Philadelphia Department of Public Health: How can we address period poverty in a meaningful, community-driven way? Since then, it’s grown into a citywide effort focused on getting free menstrual products into public spaces, providing education and resources, and listening to the voices of those most affected.
We don’t believe this initiative alone will end period poverty—but we do believe it’s a step in the right direction. By working alongside trusted local partners, gathering community feedback, and ensuring free access to period care in public spaces, Phlow Philly is part of a larger movement to reduce stigma and promote menstrual equity for all Philadelphians.

The City of Philadelphia is installing free, organic cotton menstrual products in Recreation Centers and Playgrounds across the city. Our goal is to continue to expand to include all Recreation Centers and Playgrounds in the coming months. Stay tuned for additional locations!

Yes! Across the country, more cities are recognizing period care as a public health need—and taking action. Cities like San Diego, Ann Arbor, Revere, Los Angeles, Toledo, Austin, and others have launched programs to provide free menstrual products in schools and public spaces.

Phlow Philly builds on that momentum with a citywide approach that includes both public dispenser access and a community-driven grant. While every program looks a little different, we’re proud to be part of a growing movement working toward menstrual equity.

Yes! One of Aunt Flow's core values is sustainability. We pride ourselves on providing organic cotton menstrual products without any dyes, rayon, fragrances or synthetics. Learn more about our sustainability steps.

Aunt Flow offers one "flow" level, or absorbency level. Our products are made from organic cotton and offer regular absorbency for daytime use, with a wear time of approximately 3-4 hours for pads and 4-6 hours for tampons.

• YEAH Philly – A youth-led organization providing support, healing spaces, and advocacy for Black youth.
• Project HOME – Provides housing, healthcare, and education to support individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia – Safe spaces and programs for youth development and enrichment.
• Broad Street Love – A welcoming space offering meals, supplies, and support to neighbors experiencing poverty or housing instability.
